The bottom of things

We often see things from above, from the front, from the side, but much more rarely from the bottom. This view from underneath however reveals a richness of stamps, patterns, grids, pads, labels, codes that are very beautiful. Every bottom, if not seen, has been thought of in a certain way. It is no less design than the other faces of the objects, but it’s surely design in a different, perhaps more practical way. This is a library of details that are both graphic details and functional elements. This collection of daily bottoms has been for us a way to expose an unseen side of design and to give a source of ideas to designers. It forms an inventory of details and forms that can be peaked and reinvestigated into further research process or compositions.
